Svein Nordbotten graduated as an economist from University of Oslo in 1952. He served at Statistics Norway for 20 years with responsibility for computer technology and statistical information systems development. He joined the University of Bergen as Professor in Information Science in 1972. At UiB, he headed the development of Informastion Science and the Department for Information Science. During the years 1979-1982, Svein was appointed Director of the UN Statistical Office, NY. He returned to UiB and served as Dean of Social Sciences for the period 1989-1992. From 1999, he is Professor Emeritus at UiB, and is running Svein Nordbotten & Associates.
